soylent Green is so good sic-fi film it is the first time that I saw this film and it nails it to the wall. New York in the year 2022, when the population has swollen to an unbelievable 40 million, and people live in the streets and line up for their rations of water and Soylent Green. That’s a high-protein foodstuff they say it is cultivated in the sea. Because the earth is so polluted they can’t grow anything on it almost anything. Charlton Heston plays a gritty detective who gets called in when a top official of the Soylent Corp. (Joseph Cotten) is murdered. This is the first part of the story the other grueling story is that New York is run down over populated, people are in the street trying to get food and supply coming long line and waiting for hours. There is a sign that says tuesday is soylent day. When people find out they are not enough soylent green a big riot is form garbage/bulldozer call scooper comes it and scoop people into garbage trucks. There is a wall that separate the lower class and high class people. The high class people has running water showers and food like vegetable, even sometimes beef and liquor. Heston plays the dedicated cop who stubbornly refuses to quit investigating the murder, although they told him to stop. Edward G. Robinson, in his last movie role, is an ancient scholar who remembers how to read books and whose eyes light up when Heston presents him with the first apple, the first onion and the first slice of beef he’s seen in years. He decided to make stew Thorn (Charlton Heston) taste beef stew for the first time. And Paula Kelly is the “furniture” in Joseph Cotten’s apartment: She comes with the key, and with things as grim as they are outside, But she still finds herself able to love, and she loves Thorn. There is a great scene is one of the last, when Robinson decides the time has come for him to die. He goes to “Home,” a gigantic euthanasia center, where he gets 20 minutes of his favorite color (orange) and wraparound movies of the way life used to be on Earth. Great acting very emotional Robinson and it turn out to be his last scene.
