THE SALVATION (2014)
A film by Kristian Levring
Cast: Mads Mikkelsen, Eva Green, Jeffrey Dean Morgan
It is 1870 in America. The danish brothers Jon (Mads Mikkelsen) and Peter (Mikael Persbrandt) emigrated to America after fighting the Germans in the danish/German war of 1864. Jon brings his family to America within a few hour they are dead killed by a brother of a gang leader (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) named Delarue. Delarue unleashing all his fury toward the people of the town. As Jon leaves town he gets capture by the sherif to be delivered to Delarue. Now Jon has plans of his own.
Here is a Danish western a homage to Sergio Leone, Sergio Corbucci, and john Ford. Th film has this sunset feel to it and the camera work is fluid. Eva green does a wonderful job playing the mute Princess trapped in her own world. You see Jon was leaving out west with his brother after his wife’s death but because he killed the brother of a gang leader who corrupt the town and had the mayor in his pocket. It was a done deal for him. Unfortunately Delarue want revenge. It is a revenge film nothing new in western , the only thing about this film it locks originality but so what it has action, gun fight. You see in the when spaghetti Western came out back in the 70’s they look alike but people loved them don’t matter what. With this film you will love it the same. Beautiful performance from the actors. Have fun with this one.
