L’HOMME QUI AIMAIT LES FEMMES (1977)
A film by François Truffaut
Cast: Charles Denner, Brigitte Fossey, Nelly Borgeaud
English title: The man who loved women.
Finally they made a film about me. except they messed up the ending, I am still alive. Joking aside
Bertrand (Charles Denner) is a man so obsessed with making female conquests, he thinks nothing about traveling across France and find any excuse to meet them. He stares at them especially their legs, fakes an accident, he invents any excuses to talk to them. and get them in bed. Until the inevitable happens.
Truffaut here does not explain how this women find him so attractive and charming. Denner is no that attractive but it seems he has charm and charisma and it suffice enough although he is funny and himself. The thing is always be yourself women like that. Truffaut infuse humor in this film, makes us care for the character despise of it all. Denner has a strong performance her. His character his so obsessed with women that suddenly he decided to write a book about it. He finally finds a publisher who is played be the beautiful Brigitte Fossey who has done 81 films and is still working has chemistry here with Drenner but her performance is natural as it can be. You see Bertrand lives women in dresses so he can see their legs, he gets to know them quickly , go to bed with them and dispose of them before he is suffocating of their presence. Or maybe he is a sex addict or maybe both. You just don’t know you are going along with the ride. The thing is with Bertrand he has not male friends what so ever. It is all women that he slept with. What i like about it is the twist and turn that comes along. You think you know where this is going but you don’t. Terrific film here where Truffaut show his talent as a director as well as a screenwriter.
