A film by Arnaud Desplechin
Cast: Quentin Dolmaire, Lou Roy-Lecollinet, Mathieu Amalric
English title: My golden years. The thing is it should be translated like this: Three memories from my childhood.
It is safe to say that it is the prequel of the film called My sex life or how I got to an argument. Here is a film that has it all well almost, there is flashback, voice-over, a lot of classical references, and slip screen throw in a little suspense and puppy love. the film drags a little that is the vision the puppy love story from Desplechin. So If you are into his film well no worries there.
Dedalus (Mathieu Amalric) is preparing to return to France after living in Russian for 8 years. When the plane lands in France he is told that there is a problem with his passport. So Dedalus recalls his memories when he was younger. he recall this story where when he was a young boy he gave his passport to this other young boy who looks like him so he can go to Israel. Which later on he had a love affair with Esther ( Lou Roy-Lecollinet), a mature 16 year-old who sees herself as someone different and special. The story takes off from there and you would think at the beginning of the film that you are going to watch an espionage thriller but it turn into a young puppy love story. In the story there are those who are intelligent and moving and those who are pretentious and self-indulgent. There is three memories Childhood, Russia and Ester. It is a wonderful film here very well written and filmed, the cinematography is outstanding it has an orange fell to it. It did not get recognized at the Film Cannes Festival but worth taking a look.
