A film by Rémi Bezançon
Cast: Jacques Gamblin, Zabou Breitman, Déborah François
English title: The first Day of the Rest of Your life.
Taxi driver Robert (Jacques Gamblin) and wife Marie-Jeanne (Zabou Breitman) are the parents of three children – the grungy Fleur (Déborah François), the hopelessly romantic Raphaël (Marc-André Grondin), and Albert (Pio Marmai), their eldest. Over a crucial 12 year period, 5 days in their life has key events impact on the family’s relationships.
The same director who has done No Futurs has done this one here. And what a joy this one is. Through the elasticity of time we meet the whole Duval family as they evolve and turns unexpected corners. The things that I likes that the director told the story in 5 days of their lives but in different year. You will find that you will laugh but you will be moved as the film goes on. Of course there is drinking, smoking pot in a bong, a sperm joke well sort of you’ll see, a chain-smoking dad, a dog being run over by a car at a driver license test, a teenager broken heart, a nicotine patch, just to name a few. Powered by a wonderfully soundtrack, The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life is fast and funny. There are heart warming moment at times and to top it all off air guitar has never look so cool. It is a well made entertaining film that you have watch this one with a vintage 1979 St. Emilion .
