A film by Joann Sfar
Cast: Freya Mavor, Benjamin Biolay, Elio Germano
English title: The lady in the car with glasses and a gun.
The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun, an exceptional novel Sébastien Japrisot. Here is Joann Sfar who is this upcoming director who was a comic book artist turn director. A cool little film here that he has done à la Kelly Lynch/ Claude Chabrol / Hitchcock. It is a remake from the 1970 film of the same name but Sfar put his touch into it.
She has the most extremely red hair, the most beautiful, the most myopic, the more sentimental, the one that lies, the most real, the most confusing, the most stubborn, And the most disturbing heroines. The lady in the car has never seen the sea, she flees the police and keeps repeating that she is not crazy … However ..
Here is a film that has some great photography it has an orange feeling to it with the Heroin who thinks she is not crazy. It is a different road trip film where you will see some beautiful scenery. Freya Mavor who is an english actress fluent in French flawlessly, she spent her summer when she was a kid at La Rochelle where I used to live when I was a kid in the late 60’s. if you really pay attention incarnated this character beautifully well, the heroin who is a bit crazy who wants to fulfill her long time dream to go see the ocean. As the audience members is going to think if she is schizophrenic or are her internal monologues her rational and irrational sides trying to make sense of a bizarre situation? Here is an actress who is relatively new in the business is not too often that an actress like that carries the film beautifully well. She is almost in every shot. Sfar has paid attention the details of the decor of the 1970’s here as well as the music who has some cool tunes. Some of you might be disappointed of the ending it feels a little rushed but I still like this film. I can’t wait Sfar next film. See this film while drinking a rosé after all it is summer.
