THE GIFT (2015)

the gift 2015

A film by Joel Edgerton

Cast: Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall, Joel Edgerton

A new couple from Chicago moves in California named Simon (Jason Bateman) and Robyn (Rebecca hall). one day they meet an old acquaintance from high school names Gordon well nickname Gordo. What the couple don’t know is that their life is going to do a tail spin after meeting him.

I didn’t see the trailer for this Netflix film so I decided to see it and see what gives. And what a surprise it turn out a beautiful masterpiece. Joel Edgerton who is the writer, director and actor in this film has done a terrific job here telling the story. Bateman of course has played this role one too many time but this time has out done himself. Once they meet Gordo and he shows up almost every day at their house asking if Simon is home (Robyn works at home) you think to yourself dam! I saw this film too many times. It is going to be a cliché after an other. But suddenly it takes a turning you go cool and it is a surprise after an other. It is a revenge film and a stalker film done differently here and Edgerton has use his imagination for this one. I am not going to give it away nut there is dark deep secret that is going too be revealed and the tension will rise even boil. And the end could be more than perfect. Have fun with this one.

  1. The Gift is an uncommon thriller in that no one dies. Bateman seems a natural at playing an a–hole. I wonder what he is like in real life.

One plot point that really interested me: On Gordo’s second visit, he asks Robyn, “Is Simon home?” However, he knew that Simon was at work because Robyn told him that on his first visit. I think Robyn was attracted to him.

I wrote a short post on the film called “The Root Cause of Contempt.” If you would like to read it, I am open to any feedback: https://christopherjohnlindsay.wordpress.com/2016/05/02/the-gift/
