A film by Duke Johnson, Charlie Kaufman
Cast: David Thewlis, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tom Noonan
Charlie Kaufman’s film of animated figurines in wax, filmed in stop-motion frame by frame turns out to be a pretty neat animation for adult.
In telling the story of a married man who is traveling and wants to rekindle the relationship with this woman of whom he broke it off years later. Kaufman tackles crises that mark our existence, pointing the doubt in building the dream of wanting more. Between subtle analysis of the midlife crisis, evocation of the regret of a great love, representation of guilt related to adultery and escaping with fantasizing the script has many interpretation depending on the experience of each.
It is a nice very nice animation who has beauty and intimacy. we are far away from an animation for kids here because of the subject matter but also because of the sex scenes. Gradually plunging us into a world between reality and nightmare, where all the characters have voices of man. Kauffman immerses us with humor leaving our brains full of questions.
