ROOM (2015)

A film by Lenny Abrahamson

Cast: Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay, Sean Bridgers, Joan Allen

The connection of a child and a mother will be put to the test in Lenny Abrahamson’s devastating and moving drama, “Room”, an adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s acclaimed novel. Bria Larson’s performance was so moving that she won an oscar. Jacob Tremblay was nominated but did not win although in the near future this kid is going to be a star and what of performance this kid pulled.

Having said that here we go Ma is a 20 something years old (Larson) has been trapped in a 10-by-10 foot shed for  years. Kidnapped and held captive by someone she’s come to call Old Nick, Ma exists to take care of her 5-year-old son, Jack (Jacob Tremblay), whose world has only consisted of this little tiny room. Jack greets the common household objects like close-knit family members: the refrigerator, the lamp, the rug. Everything they have, which doesn’t include a pair of scissors to cut Jack’s overlong hair, it has to be request to old Nick. When he comes jack hide in the closet where there si a bed so Jack can sleep. Ma makes the best of jack education of the world and how to use his imagination. Ma always put Jack first before her own need like any mother will do.

The thing is here you see a kid who has been in a room for years and if he gets loose and can’t out how will he react. Not easy for an actor to do specially a kid actor who pull that off very well. You kind of feel for the mother who is trying to be a regular person but can’t somehow, well she is struggling with it. On the other hand Jack is doing fine. He is adjusting and becomes  a regular kid. You see the tradition of both to try to make some sense and to go on with their life. All of the cast here has don a terrific performance as well as william Macy who play the grandfather who can’t look Jack in the eye. I am going to d-stop here just in case you did not see the film yet. Do not miss this one either.
