Okay it is a over the top comedy a la Serbian film and a cool one at that. It is a celebration of life. it has to name a few stripteases through a field of sunflowers, an opera singer who can pull nails out of a plank of wood with her ass, rowdy weddings and grenade juggling and Dadan falling in a toilet full of shit. How that for a film so far. There are evil and good life and death, and a rousing gypsy dance to top it all off in an other word a big fiesta a la carte. It is hilarious as hell and you will have a good time. Warning you will love it or hate it, no in between in this film. Have fun with this highly imaginative film.
It is on you tube.
A film by Srdan Golubovic
Cast: Nebojsa Glogovac, Natasa Ninkovic, Anica Dobra
This Serbian film will make you ask the question what is life worth. The film, a frame starts with Mladen staring out over the vast city from his apartment balcony. He then makes a phone call, takes a gun from the table and leaves . The next scene shows Mladen ringing a doorbell. Once inside, Mladen smokes and talks directly to the camera at the audience it looks like as he attempts to explain his actions. “None of this should’ve happened,” he says as he begins his story.
An ordinary man named Mladen (Nebojsa Glogovac) finds out the hard way. Mladen and his wife, a teacher Marija (Natasa Ninkovic) and their 8-year-old son Nemanja (Marko Djurovic) live in a small flat in Belgrade, they drive an old Renault 4 a French car, the state-owned company Mladen works for is going through a privatization process, but Marija and Mladen , don’t have much money. But Marija and Mladen are happy. Until one day their son gets an attack (A heart muscle problem), they rush him to the Hospital. The doctor comes back and tells them that his son needs an operation but it is not covered by the insurance because it is done in Germany, he has to come up with 28,ooo Euros. They put an ad in the papers for help. A man then call and said meet me at the hotel. Malden talks to the man and said I will give you 28,000 euros if you kill a man for me I will give you 2 days to think about it then I will call you back.
Here is a great Serbian film. This is my first film from Serbia, and it is so good. I went to the library picked it up and said to myself okay this one will do not knowing what it was really it just look good. Serbian Cinema has been very creative over the years since they have been an independent country. Emir Kusturica has been recognized and won 2 Palmes d’or among other awards. He is the most successful at it. Like I said Serbian film focuses on creative story telling. Going back to the story Marija sees that her husband is preoccupied by something else. She senses it big time, she can read his own body language. At first when the man tells Malden to kill this man it is going to be a heavy burden for him. There is no guarantee that he will get the cash. On the other hand the man who asked him to do that has selected him because he knows that Malden will accept, he is desperate to save his son. Okay I am not going to detail too much because there is many of you and I amp guessing that have not seen this one yet so I will not reveal any more than than. The acting is brilliant, the story telling is flawless. I am getting this one in my collection.
