MOKA (2016)

A film by : Frédéric Mermoud

Cast: Emmanuelle Devos, Nathalie Baye, David Clavel

Diane (Emmanuelle Devos), 45, escaped from the clinic where she was staying  for a  cure in Lausanne. Armed with a pistol, and a suitcase she traveled to Evian, on the other side of Lake Geneva. She seeks owners of an old Mercedes. And she knows that she will have to do in the end … But Can she?

Moka is the title of a novel of Tatiana de Rosnay’s novel published in 2006, a title which is the color of a Mercedes . Like every synopsis Diane goes to Evian to try to locate the driver of the car of this Mercedes. A tragedy happened but the police is not moving fast enough in their investigation. So she takes upon herself to get answers. This film starts like a thriller but the director is trying to fool you with it. Like a little deviation on the road. there is a question that will surface how far is she willing to go? and is it just revenge? It is not trying to find out the driver of the car there is a little surprise there, it is more than that. There is more that meet the eye. Diane will meet some people along the way even build relationship. The two actress of high-caliber here are on top of their game. This film is beautifully shot that I appreciate the work of cinematographer Irina Lubtchansky.
