A film by Laura Poitras
Cast: Edward Snowden, Glenn Greenwald, William Binney
This has to be the biggest documentary that hit the big screen, and what a story. The thing is that I think way before President Bush there were listening 2500 persons in every cities. Well the CIA was doing that. When I was in the U.S. I remember when I pick up the phone one day I heard a click so still to this day I still wonder if they were listening. Always have a scrambler on the phone. The thing is that Poitras has been contacted by some dude who call himself Citizenfour. They exchange email and she found out that Citizenfour was working for NSA. After seeing this film you will still have question but Poitras left them out. It is unbelievable that such a machine exist. And it does. The American government has built it supposedly to listen on the terrorists that is in the country. But they didn’t they listen to every conversation of the American people, read every emails and phone , cellphone conversations, not only that but in France , Germany ,Brazil and other countries. When she receives the emails Snowden than anonymous said to her “You chose me, I didn’t choose you. ” Here is why she made this documentary about Iraq called My country, my Country every time since then when she returned to the U.S. she was search and harassed by the homeland security. So she moved to Berlin. She was under surveillance by the order of the government , then she got contacted by Snowden.
Poitras was at work on a film about government surveillance before she first heard from Snowden. We see journalist Glenn Greenwald, who will become part of the Snowden story, working at his home in Rio de Janeiro in 2012. We see Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Director of the National Security Agency (NSA) Keith Alexander both lying to Congress under oath about the extent of the government’s spying on American citizens. Why does that surprise me. Poitras has film this undramatically without her in the picture but with the 2 journalist asking questions. You can cut the tension with the knife at times. You kewn dam well that Snowden could not get back in the U.S. and his girlfriend was going under a microscope. By the way the meeting of Snowden was in China because he believes he would be far enough from the US officials. I personally never trusted the government ever, they are corrupt like you won’t believe. But the thing is that like Snowden said N.S.A. has collected millions of data that was not protected not even secure a bit. What are you kidding me? Once the source (Snowden) went on TV all hell broke loose. Snowden seems calm a good guy who gets his 7 hours and a half a night. But Greenwald on the other had been so exited that he was getting two-hour of sleep. The film won the Oscar (2014) for Best documentary. Makes you wonder if we have the freedom of speech in America.
