Here you go I know you heard of the term Femme Fatale and yes it is French. A Femme Fatale is a mysterious woman who charm her lovers and lead them to compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations. She is a seductress, a blood sucking vampire well she will suck the life out of her victim she is like a witch who has power over man. She uses her sexuality, beauty and charm to her advantage. You see the Femme Fatale flourished in the 40’s and 50’s with flying color, especially in American films, Phyllis Dietrichson (Barbara Stanwyck) in Double Indemnity (1944) is my favorite one, the one in Maltese Flacon (1941) is the other Brigid O’Shaughnessy, portrayed by Mary Astor, and Cora (Lana Turner) in The Postman Always Rings Twice, both based on novels by James M. Cain, manipulate men into killing their husbands. Here is an other one the most brilliant at it Jane Greer who plays this murderous Femme Fatale in Out of the Past (1947) with Robert Mitchum an other favorite of mine.
They have carried on to the present day the one in Body Heat (1981) I love that one and Prizzi’s honor (1985) both played by Kathleen Turner even in Blade Runner with Sean Young what ever happened to her I have not see her in anything lately. Aaron stone in Basic Instinct (1992), To Die For (1995) with Nicole Kidman, Lost Highway (1997) with Patricia Arquette. The Sin city films has plenty of Femme Fatale there also an other one of my favorite Femme Fatale (2002) with Rebecca Romijn absolutely brilliant there, well you get the point there is still plenty of film where they pop up. Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard has often played Femmes Fatale, in films as A Private Affair (2002), A Very Long Engagement, The Black Box, Inception, Midnight in Paris, The Dark Knight Rises and Macbeth. Dam man look out for this one. They are cool sophisticated dress to kill usually smoke cigarette. and wear lingerie. Also check out this link Be a Femme Fatale it is interesting and worth a look.
