COMMANDO (1985)

images

A film by Mark L. Lester

Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Dawn Chong, Dan Hedaya

I saw that one at least 4 times and it never gets old. This is your typical movie action formula. The hero used to be a commando in the special forces. He had a daughter and leaves in the a remote location in the western area of the US. The story begins where a guy is murdered by some heavily armed garbage men. Soon after we get introduced to the retired colonel John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his daughter Jenny (Alyssa Milano), we learn that the people who are getting murdered used to be in the colonel’s unit. Matrix resist the call but soon after his daughter gets kidnap, and he learns that a ex-member, Bennett (Vernon Wells) has been doing the dirty jobs. So Matrix goes into commando mode to save his daughter. What follows after that is a lots of guns, a wild choice of villains, chases, one-liners, explosions, more guns, bigger guns, and enough dead bodies to keep a mortician’s convention busy.  Just let  your brain just enjoy the escape, Commando is a good movie to see with a few friends, some burgers fries, and beers all around.

Here is an action film well done to top it all off after Terminator Arnold got serious with his career. He became the bigger than life action hero. The film never stops. Cindy (Rae Dawn Chong) becomes Matrix side kicks. Great scene here in the shopping mall when Cindy tries to follow even seduce Sully (David Patrick Kelly) and fails miserably which follows by some great action in a shopping mall and a car chase. The collection of dead bodies starts, and you will see some serious fighting hand to hand combat toward the end. In the mix let’s put a few explosions that will be the icing on the cake. Chong does a great job in this film, her performance is nice of a normal person considering the circumstances. Have fun with this one. Of course but the end of the film the local mortician is going to be rich man.

PREDATOR (1987)

pretator

A film by John McTiernan

Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Kevin Peter Hall

A team of special force ops, led by a tough , Major “Dutch” Schaefer, are ordered in to assist George Dillon who is CIA, on a rescue mission to try to get back the South American officials who has been kidnapped . Not long after they land, Dutch and his team discover that they have been sent in under false pretenses. That is the least of their worries because they find themselves being hunted by a thing that is not human.

For an action film it is film very well. It is a slick action flick that is filmed in Mexico. Dutch and his comrades venture into this jungle in search of South American officials who have been kidnapped by terrorists. They track them go in for the kill but they find members skinned and hand from a tree. They became to realize that they are not terrorists but something else far more lethal. The creatures lives in the trees and is faster than them a lot smarter and knows how to hunt. The thing is you do not know how it got there and what planet is he from that is cool, the writer left it to your imagination. Also the creature blend in the scenery so you won’t see it. It has some cool weapons that are deadly. There is one thing I didn’t understand in this film is why a creature so well advanced is going to go Mano to Mano with Schwarzenegger it should had killed him quickly. I will tell you why that what hollywood wanted to display some special effects. The photography was perfect you felt like you were in a jungle. I had a good time with that one when it came out. Although you will find some good one liner and some humor into it.

COBRA  (1986)

A film by : George P. Cosmatos.

Cast : Sylvester Stallone, Brigitte Nielsen, Reni Santoni .

Lieutenant Marion Cobretti aka Cobra (Sylvester Stallone), is a cop who takes the jobs where others can’t handle. The cops call them when they can’t handle the jobs or it gets too dangerous. When a serial killer known only as The Night Slasher kills in Los Angeles, Cobra is on his trail.  They do not care what his method are as long as they get the job done.  His car a 1950 mercury does not get nay cooler than that, license plate” awesome 50″ a pair of mirror blue sunglasses (I had a pair back in the 70’s) a gun with a cobra on the handle and a machine gun. Now that’s what I call a cop. Now a witness turn up and the serial killer needs too shut her up. He sent a motorcycle gang after them.

Here is an Guilty pleasure movie that kick ass. gun, fight car chase, fighting, blood, and a pile of bodies that you never seen in any action movie. What gets me in this film is that the serial killer sent a motorcycle gang after the cop and the witness played by Brigitte Nielsen , Cobra kills them one after one I think I counted at least 35 of them. And more kept coming of course no one runs out of ammunition if they do it is a few minutes later. The stunts are awesome cobra does an 180 with his car hangs out a gun out of the window and kills a few people then drives in reverse and shoot some more. Cool action film I saw it 5 times now. It never gets old.

RAW DEAL (1986)

A film by John Irvin.

Cast : Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kathryn Harrold, Sam Wanamaker.

Mark Kaminsky ( Arnold Scharzenegger)  is kicked out of the FBI for his rough treatment of a suspect. Damn I smell of a state of an action film. He now is the sheriff of a small town in North Carolina. what of a drag. But wait there is more , FBI Chief Harry Shannon, whose son has been killed by a mobster named Patrovina, tells Kaminsky take care of  Patrovina with a promise of reinstatement into the FBI. Guess what not a problem there buddy I will take care of it. He must go under cover and join them in order to well you know llii them all.

Well sly gets cobra out in 1986 so Arnold decide to get his own version in 1986. The competition is on. What i like is that the mafia operate a illegal gambling casino under the Albterton hotel. Not even the cops notice that one. There is a romance in this movie with the actress Kathryn Harrold Who plays a gambler in debt with the mob. The body count is a little less than Cobra and Arnold has some funny lines at times. Cars chase fight, dun fire blood all over the place you get the point. I saw that one 3 times and it never gets old. I love those 80’s action film.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN (1982)

A film by John Milius.
Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Earl Jones, Max von Sydow .
Let me start this way. First The remake suck 1/2 hour into it I shut it off, a piece of shit, a waste of CGI. Anyway here it is the one with Arnold was great I loved it. a lot of slashing and dicing, but back then no CGI. Valeria is everything you could ever hope for in a woman well maybe not your kind of woman. She is slender and muscular and a great sport, and she can ride, throw, stab, fence, and climb ropes as good as a boy. With the Mongol and the Queen at his side, Conan ventures forth to seek the evil Thulsa Doom and gain revenge for the death of his parents.
He goes on a journey to the mysterious East, where he learns a little quick kung-fu, and then to the mountainside where Doom rules his slave-priests from the top of his Mountain of Power. There is a lot of battle and night that are a walk into the bizarre. The movie’s casting is ideal. Arnold Schwarzenegger is inevitably cast as Conan, and Sandahl Bergman as Valeria. They, and the movie, are not without humor and a certain quiet slyness that is never allowed to get out of hand. The movie is a triumph of production design, set decoration, special effects and makeup. It was a big box office winner back in 1982, anddisplay state-of-the-art technology, “Conan” ranks right up there with the best. if you are a fan of Sword & Sorcery movies like I am you are going to like this one.

THE LAST STAND (2013)

A film by Kim Jee-Woon.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville.
Sheriff Owens is a man who has resigned himself to a life of fighting what little crime takes place in sleepy border town Sommerton Junction after leaving his LAPD post following a bungled operation that left him wracked with failure and defeat after his partner was crippled. After a spectacular escape from an FBI prisoner convoy, the most notorious, wanted drug kingpin in the hemisphere is hurtling toward the border at 200 mph in a specially outfitted car with a hostage and a fierce army of gang members. He is headed, it turns out, straight for Summerton Junction, where the whole of U.S. law enforcement will have their last opportunity to make a stand and intercept him before he slips across the border forever. At first reluctant to become involved, and then counted out because of the perceived ineptitude of his small town force, Owens ultimately accepts responsibility for the face off.

Ok If you are a die hard action fan like me you are going to like this one Bloody action car chase with a corvette ZR1 with 1000 horse Power and gun fight Let’s not forget plenty of one liner jokes in there. Ok It is predictable as hell but who cares if you are a die hard fan like me you will still like it. And it is directed by Kim Jee-woon First america production for the guy and he does not speak english. Well done dude.

TERMINATOR 2 : JUDGMENT DAY (1991)

A film by James Cameron.
Cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong.
Nearly 10 years have passed since Sarah Connor was targeted for termination by a cyborg from the future. Now her son, John, the future leader of the resistance, is the target for a newer, more deadly terminator. Once again, the resistance has managed to send a protector back to attempt to save John and his mother Sarah.
From the opening the kid develops a close relationship with the terminator. The terminator is suppose to do what the kid tells him to, and he tells him not to kill people, so he shoots them in the legs. It sets off a neat twist on the tradition of the Schwarzenegger special effects film; this time, instead of corpses littering the screen, the Arnold character shoots to maim or frighten. It is fun for a kid to have your own terminator and that’s one of the inspirations in the screenplay by director James Cameron and William Wisher. the terminator becomes a father to the kid because as far as we know his real father comes from the future. It has comedy too and as the kid tells him to lighten up and stop talking like a computer. After they freed his mother from the mental institution they encounter a deadlier terminator a T 1000 who is deadlier than the one they sent years ago. Patrick is splendid as a villain. great film sequel that is. I will not review Terminator 3 because it is not that good.

THE TERMINATOR (1984)

A film by James Cameron.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn.
A cyborg is sent from the future on a deadly mission. He has to kill Sarah Connor, a young woman whose life will have a great significance in years to come. Sarah has only one protector – Kyle Reese – also sent from the future. The Terminator uses his exceptional intelligence and strength to find Sarah, but is there any way to stop the seemingly indestructible cyborg ?

After its release in 1984, the extremely low-budget sci-fi actioner broke box office records. Is there a better person to play a cyborg than Arnold? well written by James Cameron. It had action, romance, horror, and sci-fi.IT has also dark humor into it which I love. Nice special effects back in the 80’s they were great. A low budget film well done by James Cameron. A must see at any cost.
