LOGAN LUCKY (2017)

lucky logan

A film by Steven Soderbergh

Cast: Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Daniel Craig

In real life there are losers, winners, negative thinking and positive thinking. The thing is here in the new film of Soderbergh here are some unlucky bunch of people who are trying to get a little luck in doing a heist and then some and are they going to get lucky?

It is a ridiculous entertaining film here with comedy. The gang that includes a wounded veteran, an unemployed former coal miner, a hairdresser and other motley members conspires to rob a Nascar race sponsored by Coca-Cola. The film begins by introducing the characters as you watch you beginning to think what the hell are those bunch of misfit up too. But don’t judge the book by its cover as they say. Our protagonist have one thing in mind the heist getting the money and a lots of it. In all this you will have some other characters that will pop up from time to time followed by a smoking mirror. There some inventive Ideas here too mixed with humor. Soderbergh never speeds through the twists and bumps. It lets the story in cruise control so you can enjoy the moments and the humor. Lucky Logan is a terrific film here and for the new writer Rebecca blunt, well done.

A film by Bennett Miller

Cast: Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo

Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) an Olympics  gold medalist after winning a gold medal has nothing going on with his life no girlfriend, just an apartment and a car. He trains in the morning and in the evening with his brother then goes home. Until one day a certain John du Pont (Steve Carell) calls and wants to meet him. He want Mark to train and live in his facility named Foxcatcher in his prime real estate in Newtown Square, Pa. But john wanted Mark’s brother Dave (Mark Ruffalo) to come but Mark’s brother decline the offer, John din’t like that as you see his expression of his face. John has a dark side we all do but he goes downhill after that. John was never accepted by his mother she don’t even like wrestling and he never had any friends he didn’t know how to integrate himself into society. Sometimes wealthy people are a little out there well you will see why when you see the film.  I will stop here and talk no more just in case you didn’t see the film. I heard the story back in the 80’s and I could not believe it. Terrific performances from all the actors especially Carell you don’t even recognize him at all, with his pasty skin and large prosthetic nose. Even Tatum the way he walk like an ape to me nay way the way his body moves the same way Mark Ruffalo does it I guess all wrestlers moves like that. The cinematography is perfect, the estate is breath taking Do Pont had vast property a Mansion, with several houses on it. A terrific film not to be missed.

SIDE EFFECTS (2013)

A film by Steven Soderbergh.
Cast: Rooney Mara, Channing Tatum, Jude Law.
As the film opens, Emily Taylor (Rooney Mara, divested of her “Dragon Tattoo” accoutrements) is anxiously awaiting the return of husband Martin (Channing Tatum) after a four-year prison stretch for insider trading. The 2 are still in love and Martin is making an effort to get back on track and make some money. But he comes to find out that his wife is depressed an tries to kill herself by running the car through a wall. There, she is treated by psychiatrist Dr. Jonathan Banks (Jude Law), who prescribes a wide variety of the usual pharmaceutical suspects — Zoloft, Effexor, Wellbutrin — to control her symptoms. But while she experiences many of the common side effects (sleepwalking, altered sex drive), none of these medications help her. Banks consults Emily’s former therapist, Dr. Victoria Siebert (Catherine Zeta-Jones), and she suggests trying a new drug on the market called Ablixa. Now if you guessed the opening of the is film you will know what’s coming I did. And I thought it was going to be about drugs and would be an interesting story. But it is still good going the other way. Although the film keeps Humming along just find. Soderbergh is going to take a break for a couple years to let his batterie recharge and get a new film out that could be better and smarter. be sure to look for his next one (before he takes a break) the life of Liberace.
