A film by George Clooney

Cast: Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Oscar Isaac

Welcome to Suburbicon, it is 1950 and everybody is happy, well until the black family moves in. Racism in America in the 50’s no you have got to be killing me. Next door well some kind of home invasion is occurring. Too much excitement for me I am packing to go to Paris France.

First Clooney here sent home his screenwriter the one he usually works with because  he did like the script so he went with the Coen brothers and wrote this, and when you see the film it is going to feel like a Coen bother’s film except it is directed by Clooney. I will say this the film start out good until the insurance man played by Oscar Isaac comes in and here is the third story but later it falls into the water. Why? Ok it is funny at times but if you put Issac in it and it does this wonderful acting and then poof. I think here the Coen pulled off Fargo and Burn after reading were it was well done to the fact they know how to film a movie with this kind of theme and never let it go until the end. Here Clooney tries the same thing but does not pull off. He knows very well how to frame his shot but not telling the story . After all the experience he has and all the film he has acted in he should have learn something right? Not an easy thing to pull off a crime story with humour noir. Until next time.

A film by Ethan Coen, Joel Coen

Cast: Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich

Set in 1950s Hollywood,  Eddie Mannix ( Josh Brolin) aka the fixer for a big studio Capitol Pictures. Eddie ’s job is to keep the show running, and the stars were they need to be. The theme of the show is religion so we think at the beginning of the film Eddie confesses to a priest then other scene he slap an actress across the jaw. But the plot itself take off when the star Baird Whitlock (George Clooney) is kidnap from the set of their biggest film, a “Ben-Hur” style epic , after all he is the studio top star.He plays a Roman general who comes to believe in the power of Christ.

Hail caesar

Of course his acting is over the top and ridiculous and that is where the Cohen brothers want him. You have Scarlett Johansson who does a number as a  mermaid who is promiscuous starlet with an image problem, then Channing Tatum sings and dances in his sailor suit during one of the most outstanding scene Tatum captures the glow and style of an old-fashioned Hollywood star. and so is Scarlett  who does a mermaid number like back in the 50’s. And of course Frances McDormand as a chain-smoking, loving editor who wants to get the latest scoop on the stars, all this and more. Here are the Cohen brothers who are at it again making fun of the studios. Funny how that his like in the film Barton Fink where a writer is working for Capitol Pictures Okay then. You are going to have a good time in this one no doubt. I have to hand it to them they are creative in their story telling and did a variety of  films and I hope that does not stop.

hail caesar-2

GRAVITY (2013)

A film by Alfonso Cuarón

Cast: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is an engineer. It is a first mission for her (Oh boy she in for a surprise ) with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky  George Clooney who is in command one last time before he retires. But on a simple routine space walk debris of a Russian satellite came their way earlier that they thought. They found themselves into a spiral into space all along.

This film is shot beautifully well. It has not been done before and the visual effect are dazzling. the great thing about Gravity is its suspense it is a survival story in space wit a ship wreck. It takes place with 127 hours,  Cast away, Deliverance. Sandra Bullock delivers a one woman show, it is a story about survival. ThIs demand great physical performance from her she twist gets in little spaces swimming through zero gravity. There the shot were she cries and a tear rolls off her cheek and float into the air little detail like that makes this film so cool. Also on thing leads to an other she thinks she is safe but then all hell break loose again. Imaging if that happens for real that would be a pain in the ass. Ryan has enough will power to survive to make it. The geniuses in this film are the one who were hours behind the computer the CGI people who made this film spectacular, also Cuarón has done a terrific job with the 3D.

A film by George Clooney.
Cast: Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Stephen Meyers is an idealist who’s brilliant at communications, is second in command of Governor Mike Morris’s presidential campaign, and is a true believer. In the middle of the Ohio primary, the campaign manager of Morris’s opponent asks Meyers to meet; he offers him a job. At the same time, Morris’s negotiations for the endorsement of the man in third place, a North Carolina Senator, hit a snag. A young campaign intern, Molly Stearns, gets Stephen’s romantic attention. Republicans have a trick up their sleeve; Stephen may be too trusting, and Molly has a secret. What’s most important, career, victory, or virtue?

The film also raises the question of whether it is possible for any candidate to win and yet remain true to his original values. The movie stars George Clooney, well-known as a Democrat. It takes place entirely within a Democratic primary campaign, and although our feelings about who is good and bad may evolve, they’re all Democrats. Stephen Meyers (Ryan Gosling), who as a press secretary is required to more or less lie as a living. He works for Pennsylvania Gov. Mike Morris (Clooney), an idealistic liberal. Philip Seymour Hoffman is Paul Zara, his seasoned campaign manager; Michael Mantell is Sen. Pullman, Morris’ opponent, and Paul Giamatti is Tom Duffy, Pullman’s campaign manager. Well so far we have ensemble cast hooray!!!! The screenplay is based on a play (“Farragut North” by Beau Willimon), it contains some front-of-the-stage monologues that Hoffman and Giamatti make plausible under the camera. This is the story about actual candidate that wants to run for President. THat is how it goes lying that is what politician do so they can get elected If you think that politics is pure you are wrong. lying, deceiving ,cut throat, back stabbing etc…..It is a realistic political drama. Well done.

A film by Alexander Payne.
Cast: George Clooney, Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller.
Well here they are in Hawaii where in woman is in a coma, due to an accident, a teenage daughter of Hawaiian land baron Matt King that does drugs was sent to a private school and an other daughter who says nasty thing to her class mate. Then you have Matt king who has to make 2 major decision in a couple days. There this is just the beginning of the adventure of a dysfunctional family, By the way welcome to Paradise.
Terrific performance from Clooney who’s character is vulnerable, strong, confused, decisive, anguished, angry. Clooney is so effective in this one that it is like you are standind directly in is shoes. Terrific performance for Amara Miller this was her first movie very organic she’ll go far to become a star someday it will not surprise me.The director of this movie, Alexander Payne, was the guy who made “Sideways.”this is a different movie for Payne one who deal with family matters. He shows the natural beauty of hawaii. And he did not use an ochrestra for the sound track that would foreshadow and punctuate the scenes telling us how our emotions should run. The soundtrack was perfect. A must see movie I gave it a 9 out of 10 rating.
